Here is a brief background on the Library's mission; the factors driving the need for a new facility and the various options that were considered leading to an approved plan for a new, centralized facility.
The need to expand the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library has been evident going back to the early 90's when a marked increase in population of the two towns that comprise the district spurred a dramatic rise in Library usage, straining the facility and staff as they strived to keep pace. The Library Board of Trustees began studying expansion alternatives going back to 1992. A new Library on a new site was determined to be the best and lowest cost option. Two separate proposals, one in 1994 and the other in 2003, were presented to the voters and subsequently were defeated. A new proposal was compiled in 2004 which passed voter approval. The approved plan calls for a new 55,000 square foot Library to be built on 10.92 acres of land off Moe Road. It is anticipated that the new Library will open its doors in the first half of 2006.
