After considerable study and factoring in public input, the Building and Expansion Committee recommended a Library sized at 55,000 square feet.
In arriving at the 55,000 square foot recommendation, it was clear that any option below 55,000 would have entailed compromising on the fundamental operaton of the library in areas where patrons find great value in programs and services as smaller sizes would be surely overrun by growth in a short-period of time. On the other hand, options significantly about 55,000 would have built-in additional space for growth in the outer years. The 55,000 square foot design enables growth in the short term looking out 10 to 15 years and accommodates a future 30,000 square foot expansion when demand dictates.
After considering all options, the Building and Expansion Committee concluded that it would be more prudent to enable long-term future expansion in the design process, rather than to build it at this time.
