Trees

By Josh

Trees remind me of
Wise old spirits formed
From seeds so long ago.

It's leaves tell of
Hardships, when one
Falls off a new one
Grows.

It's branches
Speak of seasons,
Very many come
And gone.

It's trunk shows
Scars of time, every
Nick, cut, and gouge;
Oozing sap now hard,
And cold.

But It's roots have
Stayed anchored, grabbing
Earth with fists so tight
In the same spot they
Were so many years ago.
Gathering nutrients from the earth,
The tree depends
On what's below.
